Mike was sending this frame and fork off to a customer today.
True Temper OX Platinum tubing, and built up with absolutely mint, NOS Suntour Superbe Pro components and Mavic MA-40 clincher rims, paint by Gary Cole, lugs custom-cut from Hayden blanks by the late Les Ephgrave (the lugs are his Mod. #1 pattern), Henry James stainless steel dropouts, and a stainless Richard Sachs Newvex fork crown. This frameset was ridden and reviewed by Jan Heine in the Volume 5, No. 4 edition of Vintage Bicycle Quarterly. Since then, it has been ridden for less then 500ft, only to check brake and shifter adjustments of the new build.
Here is what Jan Heine in Bicycle Quarterly (volume 5, number 4) had to say in it’s review of the bike:
“The Terraferma planes beautifully. It was easy to get in sync with the bike.”
“My split times along the course were the fastest I have ever posted, yet it was not difficult to keep the bike moving at this speed.”
from Mark Vande Kamp’s comments in the same review:
“A rare event happened when I rode the Terraferma – I dropped Jan on a climb.”
“The Terraferma ‘planes’ as well as any bike I’ve ridden. Hard efforts are always hard, but a bike that responds so well somehow makes it easier to go to your maximum.”
Mike Terraferma stopped by today with his latest creation. A stage race whip looking very 80’s Italian.
